The Cinema Hall of Palazzo delle Esposizioni hosts a splendid film retrospective dedicated to the masters who made post-war cinema great and to the cities seen through their eyes. Seventeen extraordinary films describe entire urban centres and fabrics, outlining the shades, feelings, wealth and human crises that animate them. Cities, therefore, represented as elements of the narrativethat tell a condition and an experience - the pain of living of L'eclisse (The Eclipse), Red Desert and La notte. Places depicted as suburbs of the redemption dream of Mamma Roma, whose images "speak" intensely - as in Milano '83.
Concrete metropolises of the economic boom, struggle in the factories, and immigrants - as in The way we laughedand Rocco and his brothers - or dreamlike, decadent scenarios as in La Dolce Vita and Roma.
Silver screen masterpieces that, today, evoke the cities of the months spent in isolation, framed by the closed windows of our homes - like empty stages waiting for people - full of tensions and still unexpressed hopes. All places that, although marked by the past, are not a neutral background, but an integral part of our emotions and our experiences, reflected in the eyes of great actresses and actors: Anna Magnani, Monica Vitti, Jeanne Moreau, Marcello Mastroianni, Giancarlo Giannini, and Alain Delon, embodiment and alter ego in front of the camera of directors such as Antonioni, Pasolini, Olmi, Fellini andVisconti.
Curated by Marco Berti and Francesca Pappalardo, promoted by the Azienda Speciale Palaexpo and Fondazione Centro Sperimentale di Cinematografia - Cineteca Nazionale. Full program
